JLF is delighted to announce a new bursary to help young people from the North East study law at Jesus College, University of Cambridge. Jabad Jaigirdar, Senior Partner, has very generously donated £17,500 to establish the undergraduate bursary.
The JLF Jabad Jaigirdar Bursary will provide up to £3,500 per year to law undergraduates with an annual household income below £62,215, which can be used towards tuition fees and living costs. Applications for the upcoming academic year are open with the funding available during Michaelmas term. Jabad, who founded JLF in 2020, said:
“I hope this inspires young people from underrepresented backgrounds, particularly in the North East, to excel and pursue careers in law with no ceiling on the possibilities.
My father was a first-generation immigrant, and I was a first-generation university student, so I know first-hand how beneficial this type of financial support would have been throughout the course of my further education if I had access to it. As the founder of a business firmly rooted in the North East, I wanted to give something back to the community and enable bright young people from our region to achieve their potential and enjoy the full university experience irrespective of their financial means.
I particularly wanted to work with Jesus College because of its excellent outreach work and links with secondary schools and Colleges in this region.”
Every College at the University of Cambridge has a different link area where they work with local state schools to raise aspirations, support prospective applicants, and dispel myths about Cambridge. Jesus College works with schools and Colleges in the North East, as well as some London boroughs and Peterborough schools.
Reflecting on Jabad’s generous donation, Dr Paul Dominiak, Senior Tutor at Jesus College said: “I’d like to thank Jabad for his generosity. As a north-easterner myself, I am thrilled at the creation of another bursary that will offer financial support to eligible students from the region to pursue studies at Cambridge.
Jesus College is proud of our links in the North East region and are enriched by those from the area who come to study here. No-one should be put off applying to university because they can’t afford it.”
The Faculty of Law at University of Cambridge, is grateful for this very generous support from JLF, not least for their commitment to making Law a more accessible and representative sector.
